Reader-Reported Times vs. Published Estimates
Readers on our answer pages report how long tasks actually took them. This living study compares those reports (6 so far) against the published estimates in our articles, which are drawn from official sources.
Data collection in progress
Results appear here once individual questions reach at least 3 reader reports. Help build the dataset: find a question you've timed yourself and add your report.

Every answer page includes an anonymous one-question poll asking readers how long the task took them. Reports are stored with the duration and unit only — no personal data.
A question enters this study once it has at least 3 reports. We compare the mean reported duration against the published range in our article for that question, which is sourced from official guidance (USDA, CDC, government processing times, and similar).
This is a living dataset: figures update as new reports arrive. Cite freely with attribution and a link to this page.
